Flashdance è la colonna sonora del film statunitense omonimo del 1983, prodotto da Don Simpson e Jerry Bruckheimer e con protagonista Jennifer Beals. I principali brani della colonna sonora, Flashdance... What a Feeling di Irene Cara e Maniac di Michael Sembello, sono presenti nel disco. Entrambi i singoli raggiunsero la vetta della classifica Billboard Hot 100.[9][10] L'album fu un enorme successo commerciale, riuscendo a vendere più di 6 milioni di copie solo negli Stati Uniti ed ottenendo un disco d'oro il 17 giugno 1983, e raggiungendo lo stato di multi disco di platino il 12 ottobre 1984, e di nuovo il 21 giugno 1996.[11]

Flashdance ist das Soundtrackalbum zum gleichnamigen Film von 1983. Weltweit verkaufte sich das Album mehr als 20 Millionen Mal und zählt damit zu den weltweit meistverkauften Musikalben.[1] Die RIAA zeichnete das Album mit sechs Platin-Schallplatten und der Bundesverband Musikindustrie mit einer Platin-Schallplatte aus.[2][3] Es erhielt 1984 bei den Grammy Awards eine Nominierung in der Kategorie Album des Jahres (Album Of The Year).[4]

Flashdance: Original Soundtrack from the Motion Picture is the soundtrack to the 1983 film Flashdance, which tells the story of Alex Owens (played by Jennifer Beals), a welder and exotic dancer who dreams of becoming a professional ballerina. The nightclub performances by Alex and her co-workers and other set pieces involving training and auditioning provided opportunities to present the songs that would make up the soundtrack album. The film's music supervisor, Phil Ramone, made selections that he felt were the best fit for their respective scenes, and composer Giorgio Moroder contributed additional tracks in the process of scoring the film. One of his contributions, "Flashdance...What a Feeling" by Irene Cara, was released as a single in March 1983, weeks before the film's April 15 release, and eventually spent six weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
