Il disco è parte di un progetto che comprende due pubblicazioni: oltre a Ghosts of Download viene diffuso un altro CD chiamato Blondie 4(0) Ever, che include delle reinterpretazioni dei brani più conosciuti del gruppo e che celebra i quarant'anni di carriera della stessa band.
Il primo singolo estratto dall'album è stato A Rose by Any Name, diffuso il 21 giugno 2013.[1]
Le registrazioni sono state effettuate a cavallo tra il 2012 e il 2013 presso i Mercy Sound Recording Studios di New York e presso gli Skyline Studios di Oakland.[2]
L'artwork è stato curato da J. H. Williams III.
