Biografia
Masafumi ha incontrato i suoi attuali compagni di band Kensuke Kita e Takahiro Yamada in un club musicale della Kanto Gakuin University. I tre formarono gli Asian Kung-Fu Generation nel 1996, con il batterista Kiyoshi Ijichi che si unì alla band poco dopo.[1] Come principale compositore del gruppo, a Gotō è riconosciuto il concepimento della maggior parte dei loro testi, ma egli ha una forte tendenza a dividere i rendimenti della composizione equamente tra i compagni di band.[2] Il suo stile canoro alterna spesso melodie dolci cantate ad urla forti e aspre.[3] Masafumi è laureato in Economia; le sue band preferite sono Weezer, Number Girl, Teenage Fanclub e Eastern Youth.[4]
Nel 2010, Gotō ha aperto un'etichetta musicale, only in dreams, mentre nel 2012 ha avviato un progetto solista con la pubblicazione del singolo Lost, sotto lo pseudonimo Gotch.[5] Nel 2014 è uscito il suo album di debutto come solista, Can't Be Forever Young,[6] seguito nel 2016 da un secondo album, Good New Times.[7]

Masafumi Gotoh (後藤 正文, Gotō Masafumi) (December 2, 1976) is the lead vocalist, main songwriter and rhythm guitarist of the Japanese rock band Asian Kung-Fu Generation. Masafumi met fellow band members Kensuke Kita and Takahiro Yamada while attending a music club of Kanto Gakuin University. The three formed Asian Kung-Fu Generation in 1996, with drummer Kiyoshi Ijichi joining the band shortly after.[1] As the main songwriter of the band, Gotō is credited with writing a majority of their lyrics, but has a strong tendency to share songwriting duties equally among his bandmates. His vocal style most often alternates between soft, melodic singing, and harder, harsher, yelling.[2] Masafumi has a degree in economics and his favourite artists include Weezer, Number Girl, Oasis, Teenage Fanclub, and Beck.[3] He produces records for other artists such as Chatmonchy, Dr. Downer and The Chef Cooks Me.[4] He was also one of the founding members of the band Skeletons (スケルトンズ).[5]- [it] Masafumi Gotō
