Music career

Caterina's work explores consciousness and the psycho-acoustic effects of repetition. Most of her compositions make use of modular synthesis and was first inspired by the Buchla 200, though she has stated she is less interested in the hardware itself prefers to focus on the music.[3] She is often cited as a minimalist composer and takes a no-frills approach towards composition. Physical space and reverb are integral to her approach, and typically explores how these impact the quality and timbre of a piece.[4][5]

As of June 2021 she has released 4LP's, one of which as a collaborative album. She also completed the soundtrack of her first film score for John and the Hole which was selected for the 2020 Cannes film festival.[6][7]

In July 2021 she announced the launch of her independent label, light-years.[8]

In April 2022 she released the single Broken Melody and announced her forthcoming fifth album Spirit Exit, which released on July 8, 2022.[9] Recorded during the first two months of Milan's hard hit 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, the album is also the first in her solo work to feature strings, guitar, and vocals in addition to her known synth sounds.[10] Marking a subtle departure from her previous sound, Spirit Exit was cited as more taut and condensed in sound compared to previous albums, owing to its development occurring in her home studio.[11] It is also her first work that features vocals.
