Rania Kim Birch (born 1987), professionally known as Portrait XO, is an Korean/British/American composer, musician, and artist based in Berlin, Germany.[1] After receiving BFA in Fashion Design and Marketing from London South Bank University she pursued a music career. Kim's music often includes human singing voices (including her own), computer-generated audio samples, and tools such as augmented reality, virtual reality and artificial intelligence in her work.[2] She released her full-length debut album Portrait in 2014.[3]

Biography
Early life
Rania Kim was born in 1987 and raised in Los Angeles, California.[3] Since the age of 4 she was taught to play classical piano.[4] She moved to London in 2005 and pursued degree in Fashion Design and Marketing from London South Bank University. During her time in London she was introduced to electronic music and new music technology.[4] In 2015 she moved to Berlin to begin a career as a professional sound artist.[2] She self-identifies as hybrid artist.[3] Portrait XO has a synaesthesia between taste and sound.[5]
