Primeros años


Straus nació y creció en Brooklyn, Nueva York. Sus tatarabuelos fueron el empresario Isidor Straus y su esposa Ida Straus, quienes murieron en el hundimiento del RMS Titanic.[3] Pasó gran parte de su infancia en el estudio de su padre, Mission Sound. Ahí, aprendió a tocar varios instrumentos, incluyendo bajo, guitarra, piano y batería, como también técnicas musicales y sobre la industria de la música. Su inspiración e influencia fueron las bandas Led Zeppelin y T. Rex, como también Jack White. Después de la secundaria, Straus se mudó a Los Ángeles, California, para estudiar en la USC Thornton School of Music, sin embargo, un año después, la abandonó para centrarse en su carrera musical.[1]


Carrera


En febrero de 2018, King Princess lanzó su sencillo debut "1950".[2][4] Este sirvió como tributo a la novela de 1952 Carol, de Patricia Highsmith, a la comunidad LGBTQ y al amor homosexual.[1] La canción llegó a una gran audiencia cuando el cantante británico Harry Styles tuiteó parte de la letra de la canción.[1] Straus lanzó su segundo sencillo "Talia" en abril del mismo año.[5]

El 15 de junio de 2018, lanzó su extended play debut, Make My Bed.[6]

Mikaela Mullaney Straus[1][2] (born December 19, 1998), known by her stage name King Princess, is an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Brooklyn, New York.[3] She is signed to Mark Ronson's label Zelig Records, an imprint of Columbia Records.[4] In February 2018, King Princess released her debut single "1950", from the Make My Bed EP. The song was a commercial success, charting in multiple territories, and was later certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.[5] Her second single, "Talia", was certified gold in Australia by the Australian Recording Industry Association. King Princess released her debut studio album Cheap Queen in 2019 to widespread critical acclaim.
