Man in Black ist ein im Jahr 1971 geschriebenes Lied von Johnny Cash, das im selben Jahr auf dem gleichnamigen Album veröffentlicht wurde.[1] Es handelt sich um ein Protestlied, in dem Johnny Cash, der unter dem Spitznamen Man in Black bekannt war, erklärt, warum er immer schwarze Kleidung trägt.

Das Lied erreichte Platz 3 der U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles Charts.[2] Man in Black war auch der Titel von Johnny Cashs erster Autobiographie, die 1975 erschien.[3] Das Musikprojekt 1,000 Days, 1,000 Songs veröffentlichte den Titel im Februar 2017 auf seiner Website als Protest gegen die Politik von US-Präsident Donald Trump.[4]

"Man in Black" (or "The Man in Black") is a protest song written and recorded by singer-songwriter Johnny Cash, originally released on his 1971 album of the same name. Cash himself was known as "The Man in Black" for his distinctive style of on-stage costuming. The lyrics are an after-the-fact explanation of this with the entire song a protest statement against the treatment of poor people by wealthy politicians, mass incarceration, and the war in Vietnam. In the intro to his first performance of the song, Johnny Cash revealed he had talked to some of the audience members from Vanderbilt University that weekend, and was inspired to write "Man in Black," revising it a few times just before the concert on Wednesday. He performed the song using cards with the just-revised lyrics. At the end of the song he received a standing ovation.[ru] Man in Black (песня)
