Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt ist das erste Soloalbum von John Frusciante. Es erschien 1994 unter American Recordings.

Seine Freunde Gibby Haynes von den Butthole Surfers und Perry Farrell von Jane’s Addiction überzeugten Frusciante, das Album zu veröffentlichen, u. a. mit der Begründung, es gebe "keine gute Musik auf dem Markt". Er nahm das Album zu Hause auf einem Vierspurgerät (Tascam 424) auf, wobei er den Großteil des Materials bereits während der Aufnahmen zum Album „Blood Sugar Sex Magik“ im Jahr 1991 aufgenommen bzw. geschrieben hatte. Auf einem Titel ist Toni Oswald zu hören. Er widmete das Album Fleas Tochter Clara und seiner Ex-Freundin Toni Oswald.

Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt ist ein Doppelalbum: Das erste Album Niandra Lades (benannt nach einer weiblichen Figur, die Frusciante im bisher unveröffentlichten Film Desert in the Shape seiner damaligen Freundin Toni Oswald, darstellte) enthält die ersten zwölf Lieder, die weiteren 13 Titel finden sich auf Usually Just a T-Shirt.

Niandra LaDes and Usually Just a T-Shirt is the debut album by American musician John Frusciante, released on November 22, 1994, by American Recordings. Frusciante was previously a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but left in 1992 after he became overwhelmed by the band's newfound popularity. During this period, he became severely depressed and developed a serious drug addiction. He isolated himself in his home to record music for an eventual album. Niandra LaDes and Usually Just a T-Shirt combines avant-garde and stream-of-consciousness styles, with guitar, piano and various effects on a four-track recorder. Niandra LaDes and Usually Just a T-Shirt was met with general confusion and a mixed response from fans and critics, and sold 15,000 copies by 1996. Two years later, Frusciante rehabilitated and rejoined the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
