Geschichte

Bis 1985 hatten DeBarge meist Balladen im Repertoire, obwohl sie auch tanzbare Lieder brachten. Im Auftrag des Labels Motown konzipierte Diane Warren einen Crossover zwischen Ballade und Tanzhit. Der Sound des Titels orientierte sich am Lionel-Richie-Klassikers All Night Long (All Night) aus dem Jahr 1983 und enthält Calypso-Einflüsse. Die Veröffentlichung erfolgte am 23. Februar 1985. Der Song wurde in der zur gleichen Zeit uraufgeführten Action-Komödie Der Tanz des Drachen gespielt, was zusätzlich zur Popularität beitrug.[2]

"Rhythm of the Night" is a song by American musical recording group DeBarge, written by Diane Warren and released on February 23, 1985 on the Motown label as the first single from their fourth studio album of the same name (1985). The song jump-started the career of the prolific songwriter Warren,[1] and was the biggest hit recorded by the Motown family singing group, peaking at number three on the Billboard Hot 100, prevented from further chart movement by Madonna's "Crazy for You" and USA for Africa's "We Are the World".
