The Way We Were ist ein Lied, das im Jahr 1973 von Alan Bergman, Marilyn Bergman und Marvin Hamlisch geschrieben und komponiert wurde. In der von Barbra Streisand gesungenen Version[1] wurde es als Titellied für den gleichnamigen Film verwendet. Das Lied gewann 1974 den Oscar für das Beste Lied.[2] In den Billboard Hot 100 50th Anniversary Charts erreichte das Lied Platz 90.[3]

Das Lied erreichte als Barbra Streisands erste Veröffentlichung Platz eins der US-amerikanischen Billboard Hot 100-Charts und wurde in verschiedenen von Barbra Streisand gesungenen Versionen veröffentlicht.[4]

Das Lied wurde vielfach gecovert, unter anderem von Gladys Knight & the Pips, die damit Platz 11 der Billboard Hot 100 erreichten. "The Way We Were" is a song by American singer Barbra Streisand from her fifteenth studio album of the same name. It was released as the album's lead single on September 27, 1973 through Columbia Records. The 7" single was distributed in two different formats, with the standard edition featuring B-side track "What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?"; the Mexico release instead included an instrumental B-side. The song was written by Alan Bergman, Marilyn Bergman, and Marvin Hamlisch, while production was solely handled by Marty Paich. "The Way We Were" was specifically produced for the record, in addition to three other tracks, including her then-upcoming single "All in Love Is Fair" (1974).
