Notes

  1. Pieces 7 – 10 were appended in subsequent editions.
  2. In later editions, Thalberg's Romance sans Paroles from Mechetti's "Beethoven Album" (1842) was appended as No.3. Op.41 was then called "Trois Romances sans paroles".
  3. Op.44 in the edition by Mechetti, Vienna, but Op.43 in the edition by Latte, Paris.
  4. A review in The Athenaeum of August 16, 1845, p.821f, claims that the Marche funèbre was identical in subject with one of the Russian airs treated by Leopold de Meyer.
  5. In the Breitkof & Härtel edition pieces [9] and [11] are missing.
  6. Several authors gave Op.83 to the piece, but it is doubtful whether a printed edition with opus number existed. The Breitkopf & Härtel edition has no opus number.
