XX (pronounced Double X) is a compilation album by American metal band Mushroomhead, released in 2001. It was originally released through Eclipse Records, where Mushroomhead took classic tracks and remixed them. XX was later re-released on Universal Records in December of the same year. XX contains tracks from the band's three independently released albums – Mushroomhead, Superbuick and M3.

Being the first ever Mushroomhead album released on a major label, XX's re-release on Universal Records introduced Mushroomhead on a national and international level, while previously being just a regionally-known band. The album has sold over 300,000 copies.[2] Musically, the album is primarily within the genres of industrial metal, nu metal and alternative metal with a diverse influence from genres such as gothic rock, punk rock, techno, and hip hop.[1]

Difference between versions

Compared to the Universal Records release, the Eclipse Records version contains clearer production that's more faithful to the original albums, a different track listing and a hidden prank call at the end of "Bwomp" extended mix.[3]

Music videos

"Solitaire Unraveling" is the only song from the album to have a music video produced, which was directed by Dean Karr. The video is set in a Southern California airplane hangar and shows the band in specially designed masks. According to J Mann, the song "acts as a metaphor for the cycles of life and the duality of man". Drummer and founding member Skinny adds, "It's very much us: dark, creepy, surreal." It found airplay[4] on Uranium, Kerrang! TV, MTV2, and MTV2 Europe.[5]

XX es el primer álbum de Mushroomhead lanzado con discográficas importantes, este álbum se separó en dos versiones ya que en el año 2000 Mushroomehad firmó con la discográfica eclipse, este álbum fue lanzado como una compilación, pero en el año 2001 la discográfica Universal Records les ofreció un contrato mucho mejor que el de Eclipse, así que se decidió terminar con la discográfica y firmar con Universal, al firmar con esta discográfica Universal decidió remasterizar este álbum, pero esta vez la versión del álbum fue de estudio ya que le incluyeron dos canciones nuevas y también pusieron su nuevo sonido en este. Este álbum se consigue en las disquerías con dos versiones únicas, la versión compilación (eclipse) y la versión de estudio (universal). Hasta la fecha este es el segundo álbum de Mushroomhead que más copias vendió mundialmente con un número de 300.000 copias vendidas.

XX — компиляционный альбом американской альтернативной метал группы Mushroomhead, выпущенный 4 декабря 2001 году на лейбле Universal Records. Изначально альбом был издан на независимом лейбле Eclipse Records 8 мая 2001 года[5], но продав за 2-3 месяца 40,000 копий альбома группа перешла к другому лейблу[6]. Альбом был отремастирован и переиздан в других странах. Данный релиз представляет собой сборник композиций из альбомов Mushroomead, Superbuick и M3. В музыкальном плане, альбом выполнен в жанре альтернативный метал, который сочетает в себе такие жанры, как: индастриал, готик-рок, панк-рок и хип-хоп[2]. По словам журнала CJM на альбоме «используют фортепьяно, чистый вокал и сложные песенные структуры, что походит на King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime группы Faith No More». XX стал последним релизом, в котором участвовал гитарист Джон Секула — его заменил Марко Вукчевич, ранее исполнявший роль диджея, а также это первый альбом, в записи которого участвует новый участник группы — Рик Томас.
