Grabación y publicación

Debido al cambio repentino de Darkthrone del death metal al black metal, Peaceville Records se mostró reacio a publicar el álbum en su forma original.[1] La banda amenazó entonces en publicar el álbum con Deathlike Silence Productions, sello discográfico de Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth.[1] Sin embargo, Peaceville acordó finalmente la publicación del álbum tal como fue grabado.

Después de grabar las pistas del bajo, Dag Nilsen dejó Darkthrone. La persona que aparece en la portada es Ivar Enger (Zephyrous), el guitarrista.

El álbum fue remasterizado y relanzado por Peaceville en 2003. También incluye la segunda parte de la entrevista a Fenriz y Nocturno Culto.

A Blaze in the Northern Sky is the second studio album by Norwegian black metal band Darkthrone. It was recorded at Creative Studios in August 1991[1] and released on 26 February 1992 by Peaceville Records. It contained the band's first black metal recordings[2] and is considered a classic within the genre.[3] It was the first album of what fans dub the "Unholy Trinity", the other albums being Under a Funeral Moon and Transilvanian Hunger.[4][5] It was the last album to feature bassist Dag Nilsen.
