«I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For» (en español: Todavía no he encontrado lo que estoy buscando), es la segunda canción del disco The Joshua Tree del grupo U2 y segundo sencillo del mismo, llegando al #6 en Reino Unido y al #1 en Estados Unidos. Se le incluyó también en los discos Rattle and Hum, en una versión con coro gospel de iglesia afroamericana, The Best of 1980-1990 y el U218 Singles. Es una de las canciones más populares del grupo y frecuentemente tocada en sus conciertos.

Historia

El grupo estaba trabajando en una canción titulada "Under the weather", pero no acababa de cuajar. Un día, The Edge propuso el título "I still haven't found what I'm looking for", y Bono se puso a recomponer la letra partiendo de este título.[1]

Por aquella época, el grupo estaba escuchando mucho gospel, y reconoce que esta canción está influida por ese género. De hecho, la versión que se incluyó en el álbum Rattle and Hum echó mano de un coro gospel, The New Voices of Freedom.

La letra incluye referencias bíblicas: “I have spoken with the tongue of angels” (1 Corintios 13:1), al Padre Nuestro: "I believe in the Kingdom come", y a la Pasión de Cristo: "You broke the bonds/And you loosed the chains/Carried the cross of my shame".

En directo

La canción es una de las que más ha interpretado el grupo en directo. Debutó en el Joshua Tree Tour de 1987. Sin embargo, su trayectoria en vivo no siempre ha sido regular, ya que ha habido giras en las se ha tocado pocas veces, como el Elevation Tour de 2001 o el Innocence + Experience Tour de 2015. En el Experience + Innocence Tour de 2018 no se tocó ninguna vez, al igual que las demás canciones del álbum "The Joshua Tree".

• El cantante David Cook cantó "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" en la final del show American Idol, donde resultó ganador.
• La cantante estadounidense Cher ha abierto sus giras musicales con esta canción, entre esas giras se encuentran el Love Hurts Tour, Do You Believe? Tour, Living Proof: The Farewell Tour y el más reciente Cher At The Colosseum.
• «I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For» fue grabada en el año 2003 por la cantante galesa Bonnie Tyler para su álbum Heart Strings. Las canciones del álbum fueron grabadas junto con la Orquesta Filarmónica de Praga, dirigida por Karl Jenkins.

• La banda de metal y rock Disturbed utilizó esta canción para su álbum Asylum (álbum de Disturbed) la cual se llama "ISHFWILF" (abreviado).
