El segundo álbum de The Pogues tiene toda la furia, la rabia y la alegría que le faltó al primero, y ahí se nota la mano como productor de Elvis Costello, sin perder la frescura. MacGowan va creciendo como compositor y poeta. Aún mejor que su primer álbum se nota la fusión entre la rabia punk y las historias de la música folk tradicional.[2]

El álbum no será probablemente el mejor disco del grupo pero es el primero en demostrar que son una gran banda y no solo una buena idea para una banda.[2]

Rum Sodomy & the Lash is the second studio album by the London-based folk punk band The Pogues, released on 5 August 1985.[2] The album reached number 13 in the UK charts. The track "A Pair of Brown Eyes", based on an older Irish tune, reached number 72 in the UK singles chart. "The Old Main Drag" later appeared on the soundtrack to the film My Own Private Idaho.
