Sucesor de Operation: Mindcrime, este trabajo es uno de los más destacados y mejor vendidos en la historia del grupo. La power ballad "Silent Lucidity" se transformó en un hit crossover, alcanzando el puesto #1 en el Mainstream Rock Tracks y el puesto #9 en el Billboard Hot 100, lo que ayudó al disco a erigirse en triple platino.[1] Otras canciones destacadas del álbum son "Best I Can", "Another Rainy Night (Without You)", "Empire" y "Anybody Listening?".

A diferencia del netamente conceptual Operation: Mindcrime, este disco carece de una narrativa concreta, y se enmarca dentro de un formato de canciones de Hard rock y Heavy metal melódico, con perfil comercial y detalles progresivos.[2] Entre los temas extra de la reedición de Empire se incluyó una versión de "Scarborough Fair", original de Simon & Garfunkel.

Empire is the fourth full-length studio album by the American heavy metal band Queensrÿche, released on September 4, 1990. The album stands as Queensrÿche's most commercially successful release, reaching triple-platinum status.[10] The primary single, the power ballad "Silent Lucidity", reached number 1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks and number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100.[11] "Silent Lucidity" was also nominated in 1992 for the Grammy Awards for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group.[12] The album won a 1991 Northwest Area Music Award for Best Metal Recording.[13]
