Críticas y revisiones

La canción recibió comentarios muy positivos de parte de los críticos de música. El diario Los Angeles Times comentó que “I Stay In Love” “ no tenía adornos y que su voz era casi curtida en las notas bajas”, además agregó que “no era halagadora, pero que de verdad parece emocionante”.[1] El periódico The Republican comentó que “Mariah brilla en la canción”.[2]Fox News Channel la describió cómo “una balada para matarse”.[3]La revista People dijo que era la mejor balada del álbum, llamándola “linda”.[4] El diario Houston Chronicle comentó que era “una balada suave que Janet Jackson debería haber grabado”, además añadió que “Carey sin esfuerzo canta las notas altas al final de la canción”.[5]

El vídeo musical de la canción se filmó el 5 de octubre de 2008, en el hotel y casino Bellagio en Las Vegas, Nevada, bajo la dirección de ella y su marido Nick Cannon. Según Carey el vídeo clip fue inspirado en una historia que escribieron ella y su marido.

It was written by Carey, Bryan-Michael Cox, Adonis Shropshire and Kendrick Dean, and produced by the former two. "I Stay in Love" was released through Island Records on October 28, 2008, as the fourth and final single from the album. Drawing influence from the R&B music genre, the song features a piano and keyboard-driven melody, and a strong accompanying drum-beat. Lyrically, the song finds Carey getting "her cry on with the connect-the-dots break-up track." She describes the old time she shared with her love interest. She narrates that even though they said let go, and that she is aware that there is nothing left in their relationship, she still "stays in love with him".
