Este mini-álbum representa el debut discográfico de Sodom. Fue grabado en octubre de 1984, y editado como un vinilo de 12", en Alemania, en enero de 1985 por el sello Devil's Game (distribuido por SPV).[2] Fue publicado en los EE. UU. por Metal Blade Records.

In the Sign of Evil es generalmente considerado como un EP de black metal, pese a estar claramente más orientado al thrash, esto se debe a que la banda fue una de las que más contribuyó en la creación del black metal como subgénero del heavy metal.

In the Sign of Evil is the first EP and the debut release by West German thrash metal band Sodom, released in 1985 via Devil's Game independent record label. The record is considered part of the first wave of black metal.[2] Despite the melodic rawness, the over-the-top lyrics ("My life begins at midnight twelve, masturbate to kill myself") and the elementary structure of the songs, two of them ("Outbreak of Evil" and "Blasphemer") were regularly played by the band thirty-five years into its career, and are considered crowd favorites.[citation needed]

In the Sign of Evil (с англ. — «Под знаком зла») — первый мини-альбом и дебютный релиз немецкой трэш-метал группы Sodom, выпущенный в феврале 1985 года на независимом лейбле Devil’s Game. Пластинка считается частью первой волны блэк-метала[4].
