Antecedentes

Quorthon explicó el título del álbum como tal: "Queríamos que la gente simplemente leyera The Return ...... -como en un segundo álbum o un seguimiento- y luego voltee el álbum para buscar una lista de seguimiento. No encontrar uno, qué obtuvieron este poema apocalíptico con los títulos de las canciones entrelazados. Solo después de escuchar el álbum hasta el final obtendrías el título completo del álbum, The Return of the Darkness and Evil ".[2]

It was released on vinyl on 27 May 1985, through Combat Records in the US. The Return…… had a significant influence on developing the black metal and death metal genres.[1]
