Bat Out of Hell est le deuxième album de Meat Loaf, sorti le 21 octobre 1977.

À sa sortie, l'album se classe 9^e au Royaume-Uni et 14^e aux États-Unis, mais son succès ne s'est jamais démenti avec 43 millions d'exemplaires vendus à ce jour dans le monde, ce qui en fait un des albums les plus vendus. Il est ainsi resté 474 semaines, soit quasiment 10 ans, dans le hit-parade britannique ; seul Rumours de Fleetwood Mac a fait mieux (478 semaines).

Bat Out of Hell a été produit dans plusieurs studios de l'État de New York. Le concept est de Jim Steinman et de Meat Loaf. L'album est dédicacé à Wesley et Wilma Aday et Louis Steinman. Une comédie musicale inspirée de l'album sera produite au London Coliseum à partir de juin 2017[1].

Bat Out of Hell is the 1977 debut album by American rock singer Meat Loaf and composer Jim Steinman. It is one of the best-selling albums in history.[3] The album was developed from a musical, Neverland, a futuristic rock version of Peter Pan, which Steinman wrote for a workshop in 1974. It was recorded during 1975–1976 at various studios, including Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, New York, produced by Todd Rundgren, and released in October 1977 by Cleveland International/Epic Records.[4] Bat Out of Hell spawned two Meat Loaf sequel albums: Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell (1993) and Bat Out of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose (2006).
