Il disco presenta otto inediti interamente composti dal frontman Mick Hucknall e cinque cover: Mellow My Mind di Neil Young, due versioni di The Air That I Breathe di Phil Everly, Night Nurse di Gregory Isaacs e Ghetto Girl di Dennis Brown. Il brano Come Get Me Angel è una nuova versione del singolo Angel, mentre Broken Man proviene dalle sessioni dell'album Men and Women (1987). L'edizione giapponese contiene la traccia bonus So Jungiful, remix jungle del brano So Beautiful presente nel precedente disco Life.

Blue is the sixth studio album by British band Simply Red. It was released by East West Records on 19 May 1998 in the United Kingdom. Initially conceived as a cover album,[5] it features production from lead singer Mick Hucknall as well as Andy Wright, Gota Yashiki, Stevie J, and Joe "Jake" Carter. Hucknall, Wright, and Yashiki are the only musicians featured in the Blue CD booklet's photography; this is a first for a Simply Red album, as all prior albums featured photos of the various band members credited.

Blue es el sexto disco de la banda inglesa Simply Red sacado a la venta en 1998; fue uno de los más vendidos del grupo ya que la mayoría de temas tenían un estilo muy parecido a los primeros temas del grupo. De este disco salió la canción Night Nurse de Gregory Isaacs, que alcanzó el primer lugar en las listas de ese país. Además el disco incluye el tema de la banda The Hollies The air that i breathe.
