Il 27 maggio 2020, Goulding ha annunciato Brightest Blue come titolo del suo quarto album, insieme all'artwork di copertina, alle date e ai formati di pubblicazione e alla track list.[3]

La pubblicazione dell'album, inizialmente prevista per il 5 giugno 2020[4], è stata successivamente posticipata al 17 luglio a causa della pandemia di COVID-19.[5]


Descrizione


Nel corso di un'intervista rilasciata al The Late Late Show with James Corden, Ellie Goulding ha descritto l'album come composto da due parti ben distinte. La prima contiene brani inediti e più personali, interamente scritti dall'interprete, mentre la seconda include i principali singoli pubblicati tra il 2018 e il 2019.[6]

Brightest Blue si compone di un lato A e di un lato B. Il lato A dell'album contiene 12 brani inediti più il singolo del 2019 Flux, mentre il lato B, EG.0, include i successi Close to Me e Hate Me, già pubblicati tra 2018 e 2019, oltre a tre tracce inedite.[7]

Il 13 marzo 2020, Ellie Goulding ha pubblicato Worry About Me, in collaborazione con il rapper Blackbear, come primo singolo dell'album.[8][9] Il brano ha ricevuto recensioni generalmente positive da parte della critica.[10]

Il successivo 21 maggio è stata la volta di Power, secondo singolo estratto[11][12], seguito il 30 giugno da Slow Grenade, realizzato in collaborazione con il cantante statunitense Lauv.

Brightest Blue is the fourth studio album by English singer and songwriter Ellie Goulding. It was released on 17 July 2020 through Polydor Records. Originally scheduled for 5 June 2020, the album's release was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The album was preceded by three singles: "Worry About Me", "Power" and "Slow Grenade", and features guest vocals from Blackbear, Diplo, Juice Wrld, Lauv, serpentwithfeet and Swae Lee. It is Goulding's first album since Delirium (2015). Brightest Blue received generally positive reviews from music critics and debuted at number one in the UK, and in the top ten in several other countries. To promote the album, Goulding was set to embark on the Brightest Blue Tour on 28 April 2021, however this was pushed back to 5 October 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions in the UK.[5]
