Lo scarso risultato di vendite del disco precedente, 2000 B.C. (Before Can-I-Bus), convince la Universal a separarsi consensualmente dall'artista,[2] che resta senza etichetta e inizia a promuovere i propri singoli sul sito internet canibus.com.[2] Per il suo terzo sforzo, C! True Hollywood Stories (titolo che richiama lo show televisivo E! True Hollywood Story),[2] trova una nuova label, l'indipendente Archives Music.[2]

Il disco si sviluppa come un concept album in cui Canibus si presenta come Stan,[1][2][4] il fan di Eminem che il rapper di Detroit ha descritto nell'omonima canzone dell'album The Marshall Mathers LP e che Canibus avrebbe salvato dal fiume e portato in ospedale.[2][4] Gli autori musicali criticano negativamente questa interessante seppur fallimentare[1][2][4] idea del rapper, ritrovatosi a dover «imitare un uomo bianco che stava cercando di imitare un uomo bianco disturbato».[2] Anche la produzione non è risparmiata dalle critiche, specialmente i samples dei videogiochi, giudicati fastidiosi.[1][2][4]

Brett Berliner di Stylus Magazine si mette nei panni di Eminem stesso per la recensione,[4] stroncando l'album (F).[4]

C! True Hollywood Stories is the third studio album by the rapper Canibus, released through Archives Music on October 30, 2001. The album is Canibus' first release on an independent record label (his first two albums, Can-I-Bus and 2000 B.C., were released on Universal Records). The album was named after the television show E! True Hollywood Story. This album sets itself apart from his first two albums by seemingly being a concept album, some songs rapped from the perspective of Stan, the fan from the Eminem song "Stan". It can also be noted Canibus' rhyme style and flow resemble more that of Eminem than the style presented on his first two albums, which led to mixed reviews from the public.
