Reso inizialmente disponibile per l'ascolto a partire dall'8 settembre,[7] Centuries è stato composto dal gruppo insieme a J.R. Rotem (produttore del brano insieme a Omega), Justin Tranter, Raja Kumari e Michael Fonseca ed è caratterizzato da sonorità descritte dalla critica come alternative/pop o un «inno rock».[8][9]

Il singolo utilizza inoltre un campionamento tratto dal singolo Tom's Diner, inciso nel 1987 dalla cantante Suzanne Vega.[7][10]


Video musicale


Il video, diretto dallo studio Syndrome e girato presso il Fort Henry di Kingston,[11][12] è stato pubblicato il 17 ottobre 2014 attraverso il canale YouTube del gruppo.[13]

Oltre a mostrare i componenti del gruppo, i quali ricoprono i ruoli di gladiatori, il video ha visto un cameo del rapper Rick Ross.[14]

"Centuries" is a song by American rock band Fall Out Boy, released September 9, 2014 as the lead single from their sixth studio album, American Beauty/American Psycho (2015).[4] It was co-written by Fall Out Boy, with two producers. A gladiator-themed music video was created. The single reached No. 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was certified 4× Platinum by the RIAA. It reached first position on the UK Rock and Metal Chart. The song was also the band's fourth top ten hit and first in eight years, since "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" in 2007. In 2015, "Centuries" was nominated for the Kerrang! Award for Best Single.[5] Fall Out Boy has played the song numerous times on televised performances and was used as ESPN's official theme song for sports coverage.
