Per questo album la band si è affidata al mixaggio del produttore inglese Tim Palmer e le registrazioni sono state effettuate alla Paramour Estate, a Los Angeles, nel quartiere Silver Lake.

Il disco

Il passaggio di etichetta dalla BMG alla Sire si vede e si sente: l'imballaggio del CD è molto ricercato, con la sovracopertina cartonata riprende il famoso Heartagram; all'interno la copertina del booklet vede un palazzo in mezzo al mare in tempesta sul quale dominano il nome del gruppo e il loro simbolo.

Il singolo di lancio Wings of a Butterfly nella tracklist dell'album viene indicato come Rip Out the Wings of a Butterfly; la canzone non presenta comunque nessuna differenza rispetto alla versione del singolo.

Dark Light (engl. für: „Dunkles Licht“) ist das fünfte Studioalbum der finnischen Dark-Rock-Band HIM. Dark Light erschien am 23. September 2005 in Finnland und Deutschland, drei Tage später im Rest Europas und am 27. September in den USA und Kanada.[1] Erstmals erschien damit auch ein HIM-Album in Japan.[2]

Dark Light is the fifth studio album by Finnish gothic rock band HIM. Released on 26 September 2005, HIM began recording the album in March 2005 at the Paramour Estate is Los Angeles with producer Tim Palmer, who had also mixed the band's previous album Love Metal. Dark Light also served as HIM's first worldwide release with Sire Records, with whom the band had signed with in September 2004. In Finland, however, the album was released under the band's own label Heartagram. Musically, Dark Light featured a more "polished" and "accessible" sound than previous albums, and was written as a cross between Black Sabbath and U2, also influenced by the work of composer Angelo Badalamenti.

Dark Light es el quinto álbum de la banda finlandesa HIM. Este álbum fue lanzado el 26 de septiembre de 2005 internacionalmente y el 27 de septiembre de 2005 en EE. UU. con una edición limitada previa al lanzamiento de 20.000 copias unos días antes. Esta edición limitada vino en una caja con un folleto de 24 páginas manuscritas con letra del cantante de la banda, Ville Valo, un certificado de autenticidad y un llavero flash de luz donde parpadea el Heartagram, el logotipo de la banda. Sin embargo, se estrenó en las tiendas con una brillante envoltura de plástico negro que cubría la parte delantera, con el fin de ver la verdadera cubierta para poder realizar el pedido. Este álbum originalmente se suponía que sería mezclado y producido por Andy Wallace, un productor estadounidense, pero el vocalista Ville Valo dijo que hizo el sonido de HIM demasiado "estadounidense", por lo que contrataron a Tim Palmer con el cual habían trabajado antes en Love Metal y And Love Said No . El primer sencillo del álbum fue "Rip out the Wings of a Butterfly", y el segundo sencillo fue "Killing Loneliness". El álbum estuvo en la lista de éxitos de varios países. Alcanzó el número 18 en los EE. UU. y en el Reino Unido. En Alemania, llegó hasta el número 4.

В Финляндии и Греции альбом достиг первой строчки чартов, в Германии наивысшим достижением стало четвёртое место, а в США и Великобритании — восемнадцатое.
