Ha venduto più di un milione e 700 mila di copie e ha ricevuto otto dischi d'oro e sei di platino^{[senza fonte]}, grazie anche al successo del primo singolo estratto In the Shadows. Grazie all'album, il gruppo ha vinto cinque Emma Awards finlandesi (Miglior Gruppo, Miglior Album, Miglior Video (In My Life), Miglior Artista, Emma Export) ed il premio "'Best Nordic Act" agli MTV Europe Music Awards 2003.

Descrizione

Composto da dieci brani, il titolo dell'album è stato spiegato dal gruppo all'interno del relativo libretto:

«Una lettera morta è una lettera mai consegnata, poiché la persona per la quale era stata scritta non può essere rintracciata, e la lettera stessa non può essere restituita a chi l'ha scritta.»

Il cantante Lauri Ylönen ha brevemente aggiunto sul sito web della band: «Ogni canzone è una lettera a qualcuno. Può essere una scusa, una confessione o una disperata richiesta di aiuto».[9]

Accoglienza

Il sito AllMusic, nella sua valutazione, ha assegnato 3 stelle su 5 all'album, scrivendo: «Questo gruppo finlandese è più che in grado di scrivere canzoni rock dall'atmosfera cupa ed evocativa ma melodicamente ben rifinite».[10] Come migliori tracce sono state indicate Time to Burn, Not Like The Other Girls e il riarrangiamento del singolo del 2001 F-F-F-Falling, incluso come bonus track dell'edizione britannica.[10]

Dead Letters is the fifth album by Finnish band The Rasmus released in 2003. It was released later in 2004 in the US, UK and Australia. Their previous album, Into, had seen some success in some parts of Europe, particularly Scandinavia and Germany, but Dead Letters signified the band's major break-through. The album received 8 Gold and 6 Platinum music certification awards. Lead single "In the Shadows" received 6 gold and 2 platinum awards,[3] selling over 1 million copies and breaking the record for performance royalties received abroad on a Finnish composition (overtaking the works of Jean Sibelius).[4]
