Parlando a Stereogum, la cantante nel 2016 ha dichiarato di essere desiderosa di lavorare a nuova musica, volendo dimezzare il tempo che aveva impiegati a produrre I prevenienti lavori, e concludendo che aveva intenzione di pubblicare nuovo materiale per l’anno successivo.[2]

A giugno 2016, aveva iniziato a lavorare all’album durante un viaggio in Svezia, la prima di quattro tappe.[3][4] La sua relazione con il fotografo David Larkins era terminata proprio lì, ispirandola maggiormente alla nuova musica.[5]

Jepsen ha descritto il produttore John Hill come un eroe per il progetto, mentre altri contributori comprendono Jack Antonoff, Noonie Bao, Pontus Winnberg of Bloodshy & Avant e Captain Cuts. All’inizio del processo di lavorazione dell’album, la cantante voleva fortemente incontrare Patrik Rebger, essendo una fan del suo lavoro per la hit di Robyn Dancing On My Own.[6]

Dedicated is the fourth studio album by Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen. It was released on May 17, 2019, by 604 Records in Canada, and School Boy and Interscope Records in the United States. The album was preceded by the release of the singles "Party for One", "Now That I Found You", "No Drug Like Me", "Julien", and "Too Much". To support the album Jepsen embarked on The Dedicated Tour with dates in Europe, North America and Asia. A companion album, Dedicated Side B, featuring outtakes from Dedicated, was released just over a year later on May 21, 2020.[1]
