Il Disco
Dopo il disco They're Only Chasing Safety, non molto apprezzato e più orientato verso l'emo, il quinto disco degli Underoath presenta sonorità molto più pesanti, più vicine a quelli dei primi album che avevano portato un discreto successo alla band. Il disco inizia con una canzone molto "pesante": In regards to myself, canzone di cui è anche stato prodotto il video, seguita da un susseguirsi di brani tirati, violenti e cattivi, anche se molto spazio è dato alle parti strumentali mescolate da quella componente elettronica, che è una delle caratteristiche del suono del sestetto americano e che rende ancor più oscure e sofferenti le atmosfere del disco. Anche in questo disco è presente una ballad, ormai sempre più parte del panorama metal, Returning empty handed, e trovano spazio anche sperimentazioni come Salmarnir un pezzo inconsueto e spiazzante, dove il fruscio di un torrente è accompagnato da una voce enigmatica di sottofondo recitante versi della Bibbia in russo. L'album è, poi, valorizzato dal lavoro in cabina di regia svolto dal duo Matt Goldman (Copeland, Cartel) e Adam Dutkiewicz (chitarrista dei Killswitch Engage).

Define the Great Line is the fifth album by American rock band Underoath. It was released on June 20, 2006, through Tooth & Nail Records. Five months after the release of their fourth studio album They're Only Chasing Safety, the band were already in the process of working towards its follow-up. Recording took place between January and March 2006 at Zing Recording Studios in Westfield, Massachusetts, and Glow in the Dark Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, with Adam Dutkiewicz of Killswitch Engage, Matt Goldman and the band as producers. Define the Great Line is predominantly a metalcore and emo album, which has also been tagged as Christian metal, post-metal and post-hardcore. The variety of styles was an unintentional move by the band, who took influence from At the Drive-In, Beloved and Cult of Luna, among others.[es] Define the Great Line
