Il disco
Fu il primo disco a presentare delle soluzioni thrash metal sostenute da ritmiche e da riff particolarmente strutturati ed elaborati, pertanto viene generalmente considerato come il progenitore del thrash tecnico[2][3]. Inoltre per la perizia tecnica delle esecuzioni diventò un punto di riferimento per le band progressive metal che cominciarono ad affermarsi sul finire degli anni ottanta, su tutti i Dream Theater e i Fates Warning[1][4][5].
Le composizioni pur essendo di stampo speed metal si sviluppano su cambi di tempo complessi[2][3][4][5] e sono contraddistinte da una sezione ritmica articolata e di stampo jazz fusion[1][6]. Le linee vocali di Jason McMaster sono per lo più sviluppate su toni alti[3][5] ed anche in questo caso definirono un tratto distintivo delle prime band technical thrash statunitensi, quali Hades[7] e Toxik[8].
Il disco è stato ristampato in versione rimasterizzata in CD dalla Monster Records nel 2004 e dalla Rockadrome nel 2008.

Energetic Disassembly is the debut album by progressive metal band Watchtower, released in 1985. This is the band's only album to feature vocalist Jason McMaster and guitarist Billy White, who were replaced by Alan Tecchio and Ron Jarzombek respectively for their next album Control and Resistance. Energetic Disassembly has been recognized as one of the first albums in the technical thrash metal genre,[1][2] and Chuck Schuldiner of Death had cited the album as a significant influence on the band's transition from traditional death metal to technical death metal on their 1991 album Human.[3][es] Energetic Disassembly
