Nonostante l'accoglienza non positiva della critica specializzata[21], l'album ha riscosso un grande successo di vendite internazionale, e i primi tre singoli Believer (miglior brano rock ai Billboard Music Awards 2018[22]), Thunder (candidato al Grammy Award alla miglior performance pop di un gruppo[23]) e Whatever It Takes sono rimasti per mesi in cima alle classifiche dei singoli rock più venduti negli Stati Uniti[24]. L'album ha inoltre vinto il Billboard Music Award come miglior album rock dell'anno[22] ed è stato candidato al Grammy Award al miglior album pop vocale nel 2018[25].

Ricco di elementi della musica pop ed elettronica ma anche di altri generi come R&B[26], il cantante Dan Reynolds ha definito il disco un'«evoluzione» rispetto alle loro precedenti produzioni[27].

Evolve (stylized as ƎVOLVE) is the third studio album by American pop rock band Imagine Dragons, released on June 23, 2017, by Kidinakorner and Interscope Records. After the release of their previous album Smoke + Mirrors (2015) and its respective world tour, a self-imposed hiatus for 2016 and cryptic messages from the band through their social media gained anticipation for their third album; it was finally announced on May 9, 2017, along with the initiation of its pre-order. In comparison to Smoke + Mirrors and their 2012 debut Night Visions, frontman Dan Reynolds called the album an "evolution" for the band.
