Descrizione


Il singolo, che ha visto la collaborazione del rapper statunitense L.V., venne in seguito inserito anche nella colonna sonora del film Pensieri pericolosi del 1995, con protagonista Michelle Pfeiffer. Coolio ricevette un Grammy Award per il brano che fu anche votato come miglior singolo dell'anno nel concorso The Village Voice.

Il brano è considerato una pietra miliare della musica rap.[17]

Il ritornello del brano rielabora quello di Pastime Paradise di Stevie Wonder, il cui testo fu cambiato da Coolio per essere più attinente all'argomento della vita in strada, dandogli un'atmosfera più oscura.[18] La canzone comincia con una citazione dal salmo 23 della Bibbia, e parla di come la società odierna marginalizzi nei quartieri più poveri le persone che ci vivono, costringendole a vivere in certi ambienti degradati, e di conseguenza spingendoli a vivere situazioni pericolose, inducendoli ad una vita da criminali.[19]

In un'intervista al TG1 dell'ottobre 2013, Coolio ha affermato: «non sono io ad aver scritto la canzone, ma è lei che è venuta da me».


Video musicale


Il video musicale, diretto da Antoine Fuqua per la Propaganda Films, figura la partecipazione di Michelle Pfeiffer, che riprende il ruolo che ha nel film Pensieri pericolosi. Il video ha vinto l'MTV Video Music Award come "miglior video rap" nel 1996.

Gangsta’s Paradise ist ein Rapsong von Coolio und L. V., der am 1. August 1995 als Single erschien. Das Lied wurde als Titelsong des Soundtracks zum Film Dangerous Minds produziert und zudem im Oktober 1995 auf dem gleichnamigen Album von Coolio veröffentlicht.[3][4] Das Video wurde von Antoine Fuqua gedreht und mit dem MTV Video Music Award als bestes Rap-Video ausgezeichnet.[5] Das Stück verkaufte sich mehrere Millionen Mal und erreichte in mehreren Ländern Platinstatus.[6][7] Es ist damit Coolios kommerziell erfolgreichste Single.
