Questo lavoro segna una svolta importante nella musica della band californiana, che inizia ad allontanarsi da quelle sonorità prettamente punk dei lavori precedenti per creare un proprio stile originale e inconfondibile, con una trasformazione che sarà ancora più evidente nel successivo Recipe for Hate[1].

L'album viene considerato da buona parte della critica e dei fan inferiore ai precedenti, principalmente a causa dell'eccessiva lunghezza e ridondanza di alcuni pezzi rispetto a quello che era lo stile della band.

Dall'album è stato estratto il video di Atomic Garden, primo video ufficiale realizzato dal gruppo.

Generator ist das sechste Studioalbum der US-amerikanischen Punkrock-Band Bad Religion. Es erschien im März 1992 bei Epitaph Records. Das Album markiert einen Übergang vom strikten Punkrock-Stil seiner drei Vorgänger. Auch wenn einige Songs dem für die Band typischen schnellem Punkrock treu bleiben, sind andere deutlich langsamer ("Two Babies In The Dark", "The Answer") und es finden sich Einflüsse der aufstrebenden Genres des Noise-Rock ("Generator") bzw. Grunge ("Atomic Garden"). Diese kurze experimentelle Phase der Band sollte auch noch den Nachfolger Recipe For Hate prägen, ehe man mit dem Major-Label-Debüt Stranger Than Fiction eine Rückkehr zum typischen Stil von Bad Religion einschlug.

Generator is the sixth studio album by the punk rock band Bad Religion. Although the album was completed in the spring of 1991, it was not released until 1992; the band was not happy with the artwork and packaging, and went through several ideas that were eventually scrapped.[3] Generator was the band's first release with drummer Bobby Schayer, who replaced Pete Finestone during the Against the Grain tour.
