Il disco
In questo EP, si inizia ad avvertire un mutamento stilistico del quartetto, per via di un appesantimento dei brani, apportati dall'introduzione della doppia cassa e del Downtuning delle chitarre e del basso. Esso contiene tre brani inediti (quattro nella versione rimasterizzata).
La quarta canzone della riedizione, Aggressive Perfector, era già presente nella raccolta Metal Massacre Vol. III (disco che lanciò molti altri gruppi metal verso il successo) e successivamente fu inserita nella lista tracce della riedizione del terzo album in studio Reign in Blood, oltre ad essere stata inserita anche come b-side nei singoli Postmortem, Criminally Insane (Remix) e Seasons in the Abyss.
Ad esclusione della title track, tutte le canzoni presenti nell'EP apparvero anche negli album dal vivo del gruppo. Durante la registrazione di Chemical Warfare, Gene Hoglan mantenne ferma la doppia cassa di Dave Lombardo, perché in quel momento non c'era un tappeto in studio per poter evitare lo spostamento dei tamburi.[1]

Haunting the Chapel is an extended play (EP) released by American thrash metal band Slayer in 1984 through Metal Blade and Enigma Records. Slayer's debut album Show No Mercy became Metal Blade's highest-selling, leading to producer Brian Slagel wanting to release an EP. Recorded in Hollywood, the recording process proved difficult when recording drums in a studio without carpet, although it resulted in drummer Dave Lombardo meeting Gene Hoglan who was to become an influence in his drumming style and speed.[2] It was during the recording of this session that Lombardo first had the double bass added to his kit. Hoglan, working for Slayer at the time, sat at the kit and played a double bass for the first time. Lombardo was impressed and although Hoglan never gave him lessons, he did give him tips regarding the use of the double kick drum.[3][es] Haunting the Chapel
