L'album è stato pubblicato il 9 ottobre 2000 dall'etichetta discografica Virgin, neanche un mese prima del terzo e ultimo album delle Spice Girls Forever, gruppo del quale la cantante faceva parte.

Nonostante il singolo apripista pubblicato poche settimane prima, Tell Me, avesse raggiunto la quarta posizione della classifica britannica,[5] l'album debuttò nella classifica britannica appena alla ventottesima posizione prima di uscirvi dopo due settimane.[6] L'album includeva anche il primo effettivo singolo della cantante in versione solista, la collaborazione con Missy Elliott I Want You Back, che, pubblicato due anni prima, raggiunse la vetta della classifica britannica.

Quattro mesi dopo la pubblicazione dell'album, che non fu commercializzato negli Stati Uniti, fu pubblicato anche il secondo singolo Feels So Good, che raggiunse la quinta posizione in classifica in Inghilterra[7] aiutando l'album a rientrare in classifica. Il terzo e ultimo singolo, Lullaby, fu pubblicato nel giugno 2001 e riscosse un tiepido successo arrivando alla posizione numero tredici.[8]

Hot is the debut album by English singer-songwriter Melanie Brown, released on 9 October 2000 by Virgin. The album was not as successful as her albums with the Spice Girls or that of other members solo albums released around this time. It peaked at number twenty-eight in the United Kingdom and sold over 60,000 copies,[5] receiving a silver certification.[6] The album had four singles: "I Want You Back", featuring Missy Elliott, "Tell Me", "Feels So Good" and "Lullaby". The first three singles reached the top 5 in the United Kingdom.[7] The single "Word Up", previously released on the soundtrack of the film Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, was included on the Japanese version.[8] The album received mixed to negative reviews from critics.
