Il brano è stato scritto dalla stessa Jones e da Bruce Woolley, prodotto da Nile Rodgers[1].

La Versione presente sul 12" è un remix ad opera dei The Latin Rascals. Sul lato b è presente un brano incluso nell'album dal titolo Scary But Fun[2].

Il singolo fu un grande successo commerciale, entrando nella Top 40 di molte classifiche europee, e fu anche il suo ultimo e più alto ingresso nella Billboard Hot 100, raggiungendo la sessantanovesima posizione. Il brano si posizionò nono in quella delle Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs e quarto nella Hot Dance Club Songs[3][4].


Video musicale


Il video fu l'unica esperienza registica della Jones, che definì come la più difficile della sua vita[5], al quale parteciparono Tina Chow, Andy Warhol e Keith Haring. Quest'ultimo disegnò una grossa tela decorata, poi trasformata in enorme gonna indossata dalla Jones. Haring collaborò con lei anche dipingendole il corpo, e coinvolgendo per il video molti personaggi che gravitavano al Paradise Garage, discoteca che raccoglieva tutto il panorama artistico più in voga della New York anni ottanta[6].

"I'm Not Perfect (But I'm Perfect for You)" is a song by Jamaican singer and songwriter Grace Jones, released as the first single from her eight album, Inside Story (1986). It was co-written by Bruce Woolley and produced by Nile Rodgers of Chic fame. For the 12" single release, "I'm Not Perfect" was remixed by Larry Levan and The Latin Rascals. The track met with commercial success, becoming one of Jones' biggest hits. It made the top 40 in several European countries and top 10 in New Zealand, and was the highest-charting single by Grace Jones on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 69, and her last song to enter this chart.
