Destinato a svettare nelle classifiche di molti paesi, il brano viene citato fra i più influenti in assoluto per gli sviluppi di molta musica da ballo elettronica.[6][7][8] È inoltre al primo posto nella classifica di Billboard delle migliori canzoni disco di sempre, stilata nel 2016 da Giorgio Moroder[9].


Il brano


Sebbene la musica elettronica popolare fosse ormai diffusa, prima di I Feel Love la maggior parte dei brani disco music era accompagnato da un'orchestra acustica.[1] La produzione di Moroder e Pete Bellotte, che realizzarono il brano accompagnandolo interamente con un sintetizzatore Moog, venne presto imitata da altri musicisti.[6][10] La canzone è quindi uno dei brani pionieri del successo della musica elettronica.[11]

A differenza di molti brani disco music dell'epoca, I Feel Love venne realizzata dapprima componendo il sottofondo e la linea di basso e successivamente la melodia, la cui tonalità venne modulata a intervalli regolari insieme alla voce di Donna Summer.[12] Il brano è accompagnato da un ritmo di quattro quarti e linee di basso progressive.

"I Feel Love" is a song by American singer and songwriter Donna Summer. Produced and co-written by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, it was recorded for Summer's fifth studio album, I Remember Yesterday (1977). The album concept was to have each track evoke a different musical decade; for "I Feel Love", the team aimed to create a futuristic mood, employing a Moog synthesizer. The song was released just before the album on May 1, 1977, as the B-side to the single "Can't We Just Sit Down (And Talk It Over)", which rose to number 20 on the US Billboard R&B chart. Two months later, the sides were flipped and the single was reissued. "I Feel Love" reached number one in Australia, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, number three in West Germany, and number six on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, and topped the charts in many other countries.[1]
