Descrizione


Il titolo dell'album è dovuto alle notti passate insonni dal frontman Billie Joe Armstrong dopo la nascita del primo figlio. Insomniac non ha avuto lo stesso successo del precedente album, forse a causa di un suono maggiormente duro e tendenzialmente più cupo. La figura presente in copertina è un'opera di Winston Smith[13] (artista noto anche per aver creato alcune cover art per i Dead Kennedys) commissionata direttamente dal gruppo ed è chiamata God Told Me To Skin You Alive[14].

È il terzo best seller dei Green Day, dopo American Idiot e Dookie, con circa 8 milioni di copie vendute[15] e 2.076.000 soltanto negli USA[16].

Insomniac (engl. für: „Schlafloser“) ist das vierte Studioalbum der US-amerikanischen Punkrock-Band Green Day und der Nachfolger des Erfolgalbums Dookie. Es wurde am 6. Oktober 1995 von Reprise Records veröffentlicht, erreichte Platz zwei der US-Charts und wurde vom RIAA mit zweimal Platin ausgezeichnet.[1]

Insomniac is the fourth studio album by American rock band Green Day, released on October 10, 1995, by Reprise Records. It was recorded at Hyde Street in San Francisco, and the band prioritized high-energy takes during the recording sessions. Released as the follow-up to the band's multi-platinum breakthrough Dookie, Insomniac featured a heavier and more “punk” sound, and bleaker lyrics than its predecessor.[1] Lyrically, the album discusses themes such as alienation, anxiety, boredom, and drug use.[1] Insomniac also served as a reaction to many early fans who had turned their backs on the band after it achieved mainstream success with Dookie.[1]
