Il disco
Il titolo fa riferimento a Laurel Canyon, un centro della cultura musicale popolare a Los Angeles negli anni sessanta.[senza fonte] Con quest'album Joni Mitchell riceve la sua definitiva consacrazione: l'album arriva al 27º posto[11] delle chart statunitensi. Nel disco è contenuto uno dei suoi brani più famosi dell'artista, Woodstock, di cui fu incisa una cover da gruppi come i CSN&Y (nell'album Deja Vu) ed i Matthews Southern Comfort (nel loro omonimo album). Una cover della canzone Ladies of the Canyon è stata realizzata dalla cantante Annie Lennox nel 1995 come b-side del suo singolo No More "I Love You's".
