Storia del brano
Dopo il successo ottenuto da Sofia Carson come attrice nel film Descendants, Carson ha ottenuto un contratto discografico con Hollywood Records e Republic Records. Le due case discografiche hanno deciso in concerto di assegnarle come singolo di debutto il brano Love Is the Name, originariamente pensato per Demi Lovato e contenente un campionamento della hit Live Is Life degli Opus.[1][2] Il brano è stato scritto e prodotto da Steve Mac e co-scritto da Ina Wroldsen.[1] Il singolo è stato pubblicato ufficialmente il 7 aprile 2016 dopo essere stato presentato per la prima volta su Radio Disney.[1] L'8 aprile 2016 è stato invece pubblicato il remix latino con la collaborazione di J Balvin.[3]
Promozione
Il video musicale del brano, diretto da Hannah Lux Davis e coreografato da Teresa Espinosa, è stato presentato per la prima volta su Disney Channel.[4] È stata inoltre pubblicata una seconda versione del video per il remix latino con J Balvin.[3] Carson ha eseguito diverse performance del brano nel corso degli anni, eseguendola per la prima volta dal vivo durante i Radio Disney Music Awards 2016.

"Love Is the Name" is the debut single by American recording artist Sofia Carson. It was written and produced by Steve Mac, with additional songwriting by Ina Wroldsen. The song was released on April 7, 2016 by Hollywood and Republic Records. An official remix featuring Colombian reggaeton singer J Balvin was also released on the same day. "Love Is the Name" is an interpolation of Austrian band Opus' 1984 single "Live Is Life", which was the main inspiration behind its production. Commercially, it reached the top forty on the Latin Pop Songs and Tropical Songs component charts of Billboard in the United States, and peaked inside the top thirty in Poland. The song's accompanying music video, directed by Hannah Lux Davis, portrays Carson dancing in the sunset on a beach and in a luxurious mansion.
