Il disco
Il titolo è presumibilmente un riferimento al brano popolare del 1901 Mighty Lak' a Rose scritto da Frank Lebby Stanton e Ethelbert Nevin.
L'album è prodotto da Mitchell Froom, che si avvicenda con T-Bone Burnett rispetto al precedente Spike. Questa volta, al contrario del precedente disco, le registrazioni sono state effettuate in un solo studio, l'Ocean Way Recording di Hollywood. In due brani collabora Paul McCartney.
L'album è dedicato all'allora moglie di Costello, Cait O'Riordan, che ha scritto anche il brano Broken. Nella traccia Invasion Hit Parade suona la tromba Ross MacManus, padre di Costello.

Mighty Like a Rose is the 13th studio album by the British rock singer and songwriter Elvis Costello, released in 1991 on compact disc as Warner Brothers 26575. The title is presumably a reference to the pop standard "Mighty Lak' a Rose", and although that song does not appear on the album, the words of its first stanza are quoted in the booklet of the 2002 reissue.[14]: 23 It peaked at No. 5 on the UK Albums Chart, and at No. 55 on the Billboard 200.- [it] Mighty Like a Rose
