Dopo diversi anni di successo[3] in collaborazione con Parrish Smith negli EPMD,[3] il duo si separa[1][3] in seguito a diversi mesi di conflitti interni.[1] Ne nasce una sorta di rivalità artistica con Smith:[3] Sermon esce subito con un disco solista[1] «coerente»,[3] ma che non si distacca troppo dallo stile degli EPMD,[1][3] anzi è equiparato a un album del duo[1] o considerato una sorta di sequel di Business Never Personal.[3]

Accolto positivamente da pubblico e critica,[4] l'album è un po' più debole dal punto di vista lirico,[4] affrontando una vasta gamma di concetti e ponendosi in temi più hardcore hip hop rispetto al duo.[4] Sermon usa campioni funk per le sue basi musicali.[3]

No Pressure is the debut solo studio album by American rapper and record producer Erick Sermon. It was released on October 19, 1993 via Rush Associated Labels. Production was mainly handled by Sermon, who also served as executive producer. The album features guest appearances from Ice Cube, Joe Sinistr, Kam, Keith Murray, Redman and Shadz of Lingo. The album made it to #16 on the Billboard 200 chart and #2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in the United States.
