L'album ha venduto 49 000 copie durante la prima settimana di pubblicazione, debuttando al quarto posto della Billboard 200, il miglior risultato in classifica mai ottenuto dal gruppo negli Stati Uniti d'America.[3] Nella seconda settimana è sceso alla posizione numero 34, vendendo altre 11 000 copie.[4]

Anticipato in un primo momento dal brano Implode, reso disponibile per il download gratuito il 24 aprile 2014,[5] e successivamente dai singoli When the Stillness Comes e Repentless (il primo uscito il 18 aprile in occasione del Record Store Day e il secondo il 19 giugno),[6][7] Repentless è il primo album in studio pubblicato dal gruppo senza Jeff Hanneman, morto nel 2013 e sostituito da Gary Holt, nonché il primo con il batterista Paul Bostaph dai tempi di God Hates Us All (2001), che ha rimpiazzato Dave Lombardo in seguito al licenziamento di quest'ultimo da parte del gruppo.

L'album contiene inoltre un rifacimento di Atrocity Vendor, originariamente pubblicato come lato B del singolo World Painted Blood.

Repentless ist das elfte und letzte Studioalbum der amerikanischen Thrash-Metal-Band Slayer. Es wurde am 11. September 2015 veröffentlicht und ist das einzige Album der Band, das ohne Jeff Hanneman aufgenommen wurde, der am 2. Mai 2013 verstarb. Stattdessen ist Gary Holt zu hören. Außerdem spielte erstmals seit God Hates Us All 2001 wieder Schlagzeuger Paul Bostaph. Die Band veröffentlichte zudem erstmals ein Album bei Nuclear Blast, und auch Terry Date gab sein Debüt als Produzent für die Band, der Rick Rubin in dieser Funktion nach 29 Jahren und neun Studioalben ablöste. Die Pause zwischen World Painted Blood und Repentless war zudem die längste zwischen zwei Slayer-Alben. 2018 und 2019 begab sich die Band auf eine Abschiedstour und löste sich schließlich auf.[1]

Repentless is the twelfth and final studio album by American thrash metal band Slayer, released on September 11, 2015. This is the band's only album recorded without guitarist Jeff Hanneman, who died from liver cirrhosis in 2013 and was replaced by Gary Holt, and the first to feature drummer Paul Bostaph since God Hates Us All (2001). Repentless is also the only album the band released on Nuclear Blast and was produced by Terry Date, replacing Rick Rubin after twenty-nine years and nine studio albums as their producer or executive producer. The six-year gap between World Painted Blood (2009) and Repentless was the longest between two Slayer albums in their career, and it would be the band's last studio album before disbanding in 2019, following the conclusion of their final world tour.[1]
