Descrizione

Il frontman del gruppo Matthew Bellamy ha dichiarato che il brano è una sorta di continuazione del singolo del 2007 Map of the Problematique e racchiude influenze dei primi lavori dei The Police. Il brano fa riferimenti musicali alla canzone Citizen Erased del loro secondo album Origin of Symmetry

L'introduzione è caratterizzata da un Onde Martenot, primo strumento musicale elettronico risalente al 1928 e antenato del moderno sintetizzatore.

La canzone è la più rappresentativa del disco ispirato al romanzo del 1948 di George Orwell intitolato 1984[3] dato che il testo rivisita la storia d'amore e gli incontri dei protagonisti del libro Winston e Julia.[3]

Il videoclip del brano è un insieme di scene provenienti da alcuni concerti del The Resistance Tour ed è stato pubblicato il 14 gennaio 2010.[2]

"Resistance" is a song by English alternative rock band Muse, featured as the title track on their fifth studio album The Resistance. Written by vocalist, guitarist and pianist Matthew Bellamy, it was released as the third single from the album, following "Uprising" and "Undisclosed Desires", on 22 February 2010.[1] The song makes several references to the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, by George Orwell. The intro of the song is used in the trailer of the last episode of BBC show Silent Witness. In February 2010, Muse had uploaded a picture puzzle of "Resistance" artwork on their official Facebook page. The puzzle itself has a making of the "Resistance" track (which will be able to see it after solving the puzzle). This song was featured in a promo for an episode of Human Target. The song was also released as downloadable content for the music video game Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock.
