Il disco venne preceduto dal singolo di lancio Hammerhead (pubblicato il 6 maggio dello stesso anno[10]), l'album debuttò alla decima posizione nella Billboard 200[11][12].


Reazioni


Le reazioni del disco da parte dei fan sono state generalmente positive, nonostante siano mescolate ad alcune critiche.[13] Mentre All Music Guide ha comparato Fix You all'omonimo brano dei Coldplay (assegnando inoltre un punteggio di due stelle su cinque per l'album, ritenuto troppo "tranquillo"),[1] Kerrang! ha attribuito un voto di 4 su 5, affermando che Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace è un'ottima riconferma.[14]

Il cantante Dexter Holland rispose a queste critiche in un'intervista al Los Angeles Times:[15]

«Chi decide che cos'è punk o no? Io voglio scrivere canzoni per farle ascoltare alla gente, per far provar loro emozioni. Voglio avere successo ed avere un grande pubblico. Non sto provando ad essere il ragazzo più figo del mondo, sto cercando di scrivere canzoni che significhino qualcosa per la gente. Quando diventi famoso a volte perdi una base di fan e ne guadagni un'altra.»

Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace is the eighth studio album by American punk rock band The Offspring, released on June 11, 2008, by Columbia Records.[2] It was the band's first album of new material in nearly five years, following 2003's Splinter, marking their longest gap between studio albums at the time. The Offspring had been working on new material since the fall of 2004,[3] but showed no further signs of progress until November 2006, when they announced on their official website that they had begun recording with producer Bob Rock.[1] The writing and recording process, spanning four years and three recording studios, was finally finished in April 2008.
