La canzone è, forse, la più conosciuta dei Blind Guardian, che grazie ad essa vengono soprannominati da molti fan "I Bardi" o anche "i Bardi di Krefeld". Durante i concerti il brano viene cantato quasi interamente dal pubblico, a testimoniare la fama raggiunta dalla ballata. La canzone fu pubblicata originariamente sull'album Somewhere Far Beyond del 1992 che conteneva anche una seconda parte della canzone dal nome "The Hobbit". In un'intervista, Hansi Kürsch dichiarò di essere molto legato alla canzone, che fu composta durante il periodo della scomparsa del padre[1].

The Bard’s Song (In the Forest) ist ein Lied der deutschen Metal-Band Blind Guardian. Der Song erschien 2003 als Single via Virgin Records. Das Cover der Single zeichnete der russische Künstler Aleksej Michailowitsch Schamrowskij. Die erstmalige Veröffentlichung erfolgte 1992 auf dem Album Somewhere Far Beyond, 2012 gab es eine Orchesterversion auf einem Best-of-Album.
