Il disco


La prima raccolta dei Manhattan Transfer contiene alcuni dei principali successi provenienti dai loro primi album. Il disco fu concepito per il mercato statunitense e fu immesso sul mercato per le festività natalizie. Sono infatti assenti alcune canzoni che resero celebre il quartetto in Gran Bretagna e nel resto d'Europa. Manca in particolare Chanson d'amour, il cui singolo arrivò alla prima posizione della classifica del Regno Unito[1], e non sono nemmeno presenti altre canzoni tratte dal secondo album Coming Out.

Il disco fu accreditato del disco d'oro nel 1987 e del disco di platino nel 1993 dalla RIAA.[2][3]

Un disco con lo stesso titolo, ma con una scaletta e una copertina diverse, fu distribuito per il mercato italiano ed europeo nel 1988 dopo il buon successo ottenuto da Vocalese e da Brasil.

The Best Of The Manhattan Transfer was released in 1981 on the Atlantic Records label by The Manhattan Transfer for the holiday season. It contained the "best of" their hits from their early Atlantic years (1975–1981). All of the tracks had been previously released on four of their five Atlantic studio albums: The Manhattan Transfer (1975), Pastiche (1978), Extensions (1979), and Mecca for Moderns (1981). No songs from their second studio album, Coming Out (1976), were included on US or international releases, except on early Australian and New Zealand vinyl releases where a slightly different track order omitted "Nightingale" in favour of "Chanson D'Amour" and "Where Did Our Love Go."
