Antefatti

In un'intervista nel novembre 2016, Chance the Rapper ha dichiarato di star lavorando all’album.[2] Nel marzo 2017, Chance ha affermato che avrebbe venduto il suo album di debutto, al contrario dell'uscita gratuita dei suoi precedenti mixtape.[3]

Nel luglio 2018, Chance ha annunciato che Kanye West si sarebbe recato a Chicago per produrre il suo album di debutto.[4] West è arrivato a Chicago a metà agosto 2018 e Chance ha iniziato a registrare.[5] Il duo in seguito ha annunciato una loro collaborazione, intitolata Good Ass Job.[6]

Il 12 febbraio 2019, Chance ha twittato la parola "luglio" e ha condiviso un video su Instagram rivelando che i fan potevano aspettarsi nuova musica in quel mese.[7]

Nonostante ciò, l'album è stato accolto con pessime recensione per via della sua eccessiva lunghezza e delle tracce non all'altezza dell'attesa.

The Big Day is the debut studio album by American rapper Chance the Rapper, released on July 26, 2019.[4] The album follows several mixtapes by the rapper including the reissue of his collaborative Merry Christmas Lil' Mama in 2017, and was his first solo project since Coloring Book in 2016.[5] The album was influenced by Chance's marriage in March 2019.[6] The album was critically lauded by most critics - however certain aspects of the work found limited commercial success.[7][8] The album received backlash from fans on social media and other Internet communities citing inconsistencies of quality throughout the work.[9][10] The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200, Chance's highest-charting entry to date.[11]
