The Breakthrough è il settimo album in studio di Mary J. Blige, pubblicato nel dicembre 2005. L'album ha venduto più di 600 000 copie nella prima settimana di pubblicazione, debuttando al numero 1 della Billboard Hot 100, e ha raggiunto ben presto il livello di 3 milioni di copie vendute. Nel 2007 ha ricevuto un Grammy Award come Best R&B Album. Il primo singolo estratto fu la ballata R&B "Be Without You" che ha ottenuto un gran successo, specialmente in America. Dopo l'enorme riscontro ottenuto dalla canzone, la casa discografica decise di pubblicare un doppio secondo singolo: "One" cover della celebre hit degli U2 fu commercializzata nel mercato europeo, "Enough Cryin'" invece pubblicata per il mercato americano.
