Questo disco è il primo capitolo di una trilogia conclusasi poi con i successivi due album. È incentrato sulla storia di un ragazzo chiamato Steven (lo stesso protagonista della storia narrata in Welcome to My Nightmare) e di un misterioso showman dai poteri speciali che tenta di sedurlo per farlo partecipare ai suoi spettacoli "The Theatre of the Real - The Grand-est Guignol!".[6]

Il disco

L'intera storia dell'album è stata illustrata in un fumetto in tre capitoli realizzato da Neil Gaiman,[7][8] la cui prima parte è stata inserita all'interno del libretto del disco. Nel fumetto, lo showmam (denominato sempre e solo come tale) è interpretato dallo stesso Alice Cooper. Alcune pagine appaiono nel videoclip del singolo Lost in America, in cui viene mostrato Steve intento a leggere il fumetto.

La storia è stata originariamente pubblicata dalla Marvel Comics e in seguito ristampata dalla Dark Horse Comics, raccolta come libro in brossura.[9]

The Last Temptation ist das am 12. Juli 1994 erstmals veröffentlichte zwanzigste Studioalbum des US-amerikanischen Rockmusikers Alice Cooper. Das Konzept zum Album wurde von Cooper gemeinsam mit dem bekannten Autor Neil Gaiman entwickelt,[1] der dazu zusammen mit Michael Zulli (The Sandman) auch ein gleichnamiges Comic gestaltete, das bei Marvel verlegt wurde. Die Erstausgabe des Albums enthielt den 32-seitigen ersten Teil des Comics, das bis 1995 in insgesamt drei Heftausgaben veröffentlicht wurde und erst 1996 als Sammelband verfügbar war.[2] Es wurde zuletzt am 13. September 2005 als Graphic Novel bei Dark Horse Comics verlegt.[3] Das Album entstand unter Mitarbeit zahlreicher bekannter Musiker, unter anderem schrieben Chris Cornell (Soundgarden), Jack Blades (Night Ranger, Damn Yankees) und Tommy Shaw (Styx, Damn Yankees) Lieder für The Last Temptation.

The Last Temptation is the thirteenth solo studio album by rock singer Alice Cooper, released in July 1994 via Epic Records. It centers on a boy named Steven (also the name of the protagonist in Cooper's earlier work, Welcome to My Nightmare), and a mysterious showman. The showman, with apparent supernatural abilities, attempts with the use of twisted versions of morality plays to persuade Steven to join his traveling show, "The Theater of the Real - The Grand-est Guignol!", where he would "never grow up".
