The Pernicious Enigma (englisch Das verderbliche Rätsel) ist das zweite Album der britischen Funeral-Doom-Band Esoteric. Es wurde am 14. April 1997 als Doppel-CD-Album mit der Katalognummer ADCD 004 über Aesthetic Death Records veröffentlicht. Bei Kritikern gilt es als ein erster künstlerischer Höhepunkt der Band sowie als Meilenstein des Genres.
